MASTERS
Masters squad
Who are we?
We are a group of circa 35 swimmers of varying abilities, ranging from former competitive swimmers, triathletes, open water swimmers, to those just swimming for fitness. We have County, National and WORLD record holders within our ranks! Our ages range from 19 up to late 70s.
We pride ourselves on the challenging yet enjoyable, engaging sessions we offer to the group – regardless of their goals. Yet we also accommodate the busy working parents, the recently graduated, and young adults who were perhaps once active club swimmers, and who are now rekindling their love of the sport. However, a history of competing or a former affiliation to a club is not necessarily a prerequisite for joining us, however being a relatively competitive club, our sets do focus on all 4 strokes and can be challenging for traditional lane swimmers. Our friendly group includes those who swim simply to keep fit or to complement their other sports. A select few of our group also have children who swim in the club.
As a guide, we would ask that swimmers can comfortably swim several 100m swims (e.g. up to 6) on around 2 minutes (swim and rest time).
Some swimmers utilise all 4 sessions on offer to us, whilst others dip in and out depending on their schedule. There is no minimum commitment/attendance requirements. We appreciate that everyone's circumstances are different and change from week to week. The fees remain the same each month, regardless of how many sessions you attend. Payment is made each month via standing order upon joining.
Anyone interested in trialling with us would be invited along to two sessions, space permitting.
Sunday 17:30-18:30 (Stadium)
Monday 19:45-21:00 (Stadium)
Tuesday 20:30-21:30 (Aqua Vale)
Thursday 21:00-22:00 (Aqua Vale)
What to expect from our sessions
We swim between 2 and 2.5km during our sessions. A strong front crawl is central to our sets – we also do a mixture of distance, sprints, drills, stroke-work and individual medleys. 2 of our sessions are coached by our Head Coach, one by our Assistant Head Coach and Sundays are run by the group from the pool. We follow the usual lane etiquette and encourage everyone to be mindful of others in their lane.
We use pull buoys and fins and paddles – but all of these are optional – the key pieces of kit you need are a hat and goggles!
